Infinite Coles - SweetFace Killah

Don't Sleep

Powered by the unapologetic energy of ballroom culture and queer expression, SweetFace Killah is the arrival of a bold debut album made of grace and grit.

Who

Infinite Coles is a New York–born multidisciplinary artist rising from NYC's queer creative underground to deliver a stomping fusion of alt-R&B and ballroom culture's high energy.

What

Using vulnerability as the spine of his creativity, Infinite Coles delivers a potent and poetic debut, introducing his strong character and empowering self-expression alongside the messy and complicated. The smartly-named album opener and title track SweetFaceKillah immediately introduces us to one shaping element of the Infinite story, his estranged relationship with his Wu-Tang Clan rapper father Ghostface Killah

Infinite is not here to mince his words, lines like "How you in a Mack truck but forget you're a father?" and 'Are my pants not low like your self-esteem? pierce his direct rap verses, giving the bouncy R&B house sound a grittier edge. Elsewhere on Boots, Coles amps up the swagger. For listeners tuned into Black musical heritage and the world of queer club culture, the vogue-ballroom energy captured in the track immediately transports listeners to this vibrant scene, which Infinite authentically pulls from. On Dad & I, the multi-hyphenate wraps his soulful vocal range around a silky, lush, 90s R&B soundscape, this time a softer reflection on his estrangement with his father due to the lack of acceptance around his sexuality.

“I try my hardest to keep this life and that life separate. I feel like I’m talented enough for people to just love me for me and what I can bring to the table without being attached to him. But I never mind the questions about him because, clearly, he is a part of me"
